Job Description

Job Title: Injection Maintenance Mechanic

Department: Maintenance

Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor

Date: January 2020

SUMMARY

Perform general maintenance and preventative/predictive maintenance on a variety of Injection molding, auxiliary and plant support equipment. Individual is required to have proven knowledge and skill of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic theory and procedure to trouble shoot, perform preventative maintenance and complete necessary repairs. The overall goal is to assist in minimizing downtime due to breakdown repairs and PM's and to optimize the quality of products manufactured to the highest degree equipment is capable of producing.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Applies knowledge of the following in maintenance and repair of blow mold, auxiliary and support equipment:

  1. mechanical
  2. electrical
  3. pneumatic
  4. hydraulic theory and procedure

Applies knowledge of machines and processes for each of the following to analyze, setup and maintain equipment for safe and continuous operation:

  1. Injection molding
  2. drying
  3. mechanical systems
  4. design
  5. construction

Ability to apply knowledge of each technical requirement:

  1. Electrical skills - Ability to read electrical schematics and identify symbols and control circuits with a high degree of competency. Includes ability to understand and troubleshoot PSC controlled equipment, understanding of inputs and outputs. Ability to competently and with a reasonable degree of accuracy troubleshoot electrical circuits. Must be capable of changing motors, install relays and starters, troubleshooting control circuits.

  1. Hydraulic Skills - Ability to read hydraulic schematics and identify symbols and control circuits with a reasonable degree of competency. Ability to competently and with a reasonable degree of accuracy troubleshoot a hydraulic circuit. Must be capable of working on equipment to repair, change or upgrade the status of equipment.

  1. Mechanical Skills - Must be capable of performing maintenance on all types of equipment represented in the plant with a reasonable degree of skill and competency. Must have a reasonable degree of skill with refrigeration, drying, conveying, fluid pumps, blowing and vacuum pumps, pneumatic circuits and welding.

Supplies own tools sufficient to perform maintenance tasks in the disciplines of the scope needed to perform job task assigned. This includes basic electrical test tools, industrial hand tools, some ir and hand tools, plumbing tools, welding tools and a tool box adequate to secure the employee's investment.

Maintains housekeeping of all assigned areas. This includes cleaning up after making repairs and applying Good Manufacturing Practices to meet plant goals.

Maintains accurate repair records. Is able to understand and follow work orders.

Is responsible to remain on each assignment until the job is complete or until released by a proper authority.

Follows all established safety rules and guidelines as outlined in the Employee Handbook and as trained during the various safety-related training programs. Understands and communicates all hazards and safety issues to co-workers and managers/supervisors. Properly uses all personal protective equipment.

Performs other related duties as directed by the Plant Engineer, Maintenance Supervisor, Production Manager or Shift Supervisor, and be willing to perform other duties as assigned that may not necessarily fall within the scope of the duties outlined above.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

This position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTSEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Requires high school diploma or equivalent. Some post-secondary education preferred (i.e., Technical or Vocational education).

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Ability to recognize and understand numbers and values and enter this information into an on-line data-base accurately. A strong mathematical ability is essential.

Ability to visually and mentally make priority decisions and independent judgment calls based on a situation at hand.

Ability efficiently and effectively use a computer and related software.

Ability to work all shifts and required overtime.

Training Requirements: As required by Management.

SAFETY

Must attend all required Safety/OSHA training classes. Must adhere to all Safety Rules as posted in employee handbook and in the plant. All employees must adhere to the Amcor "No Injuries Program".

QUALITY

Must be GMP/HACCP/Food Security trained.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to lift/push/pull 70 pounds on a continual basis; this is a heavy physical demand job as outlined by the U.S. Department of Labor. Incumbent is required to stand/walk for up to 11 hours per shift on a concrete floor and is frequently required to do the following: (1) lift to 120 pounds; (2) carry up to 50 pounds; (3) push/pull up to 900 pounds using a hydraulic hand jack (this is the equivalent of a static push/pull of approximately 70 pounds). Must occasionally squat/bend/kneel/reach, etc. in order to carry out the essential functions of the position.
