RECOVERY ENGINEER, COAST GUARD COMPLIANCE AND VESSEL MANAGEMENT

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support compliance management and engineering documentation for SpaceX's fleet of vessels
  • Drive compliance and innovation strategy for SpaceX's fleet of vessels and operations
  • Support compliance management and engineering documentation for SpaceX's fleet of vessels which operate in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Gulf of Mexico
  • Ensure fleet complies with all applicable international, federal, state, and local regulations
  • Schedule and attend all internal and regulatory audits
  • Organize and write compliance documentation on new design and development projects that comply with United States Coast Guard and American Bureau of Shipping guidelines and CFRs
  • Work with SpaceX engineers to ensure new engineering efforts are complying with offshore regulations
  • Attend seminars, support information sessions, and meet with local and HQ level officials
  • Primary interface between the United States Coast Guard/American Bureau of Shipping and SpaceX
  • Support partnerships with SpaceX vessel owners/providers
  • Support recovery operations when required

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline with 3+ years of experience in vessel compliance, or 10+ years of professional experience in vessel compliance
  • 2+ years of professional experience working with the Coast Guard and American Bureau of Shipping

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in naval architecture or an engineering discipline
  • Former United States Coast Guard member working in compliance, inspections, or engineering
  • Experience working with engineers and technicians
  • Testing experience, including setting test objectives, writing test plans, and hands-on testing
  • Experience operating and troubleshooting remote-operated ground control systems
  • Experience with critical operations where real-time decision making affected success criteria

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral
  • Overall mental fitness with the ability to work in a high-concentration, high-stress environment requiring prolonged mental concentration (under possible extended work hours)
  • Occasional travel may be required
