Responsible for: The structural welder welds together metal components as specified by blueprints, work orders, and/or oral instructions. Duties include the use and maintenance of related shop equipment for welding. Essential Functions:
Lay-out, position, and secure parts and assemblies according to specifications using straightedge, combination square, calipers, and ruler
Tack-weld or weld components and assemblies, using welding equipment
Perform structural welding using a variety of procedures, such as the groove weld, fillet weld complete joint penetration, and partial joint penetration
Cuts materials, using powered saws, hand shears, acetylene torches and grinder
Welds components in flat, vertical or overhead positions
Ignites torch and adjusts valves, amperage, or voltage to obtain desired flame or arc
Observe and follow all company safety rules and regulations
Other duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications/Experience: A minimum of 1 year certified welder experience. Skills/Competencies: Basic knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of metal fabrications or other structures. Skilled in all operational aspects of welding. Ability to stand, sit, walk, or drive for extended periods of time. Perform physical activities that frequently require bending at the waist, squatting, climbing, stooping, kneeling and reaching above the head.
