JOB Title: Pipefitter I

This is semi-skilled experience in Polyethylene/HDPE Pipe fusion and installation. Work involves responsibility for the performance of semi-skilled duties assisting in the installation, repair, and maintenance of water and/or wastewater services and mains. The employee normally works under direct supervision, and all work is inspected in progress and upon completion.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Water):

        • Lays water mains; installs hydrants, valves, fittings, clamps, and sleeves; flushes lines; backfills around pipes; landscapes upon completion.
        • Makes routine water taps; digs holes for taps; sets up tapping mechanism; makes tie-ins; installs water service lines and meters.
        • Performs maintenance on materials, tools, and equipment.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Wastewater):

      • Lays wastewater gravity mains; manholes; force mains; valve vaults; installs air release, valves, fittings, clamps, and sleeves, and responsible for the more difficult repairs; backfills around pipes; landscapes upon completion.
      • Makes routine wastewater service extensions; digs holes for point repairs and sewer taps; sets up tapping mechanism; makes tie-ins; installs water service lines and meters.
      • Assists in construction and upgrading wastewater pumping stations.
      • Performs maintenance on materials, tools, and equipment.
      • Constructs manhole inverts.
      • Assists in pouring and finishing concrete for driveways, sidewalks and roadways.
      • Cuts and bevels pipes; threads pipes.
      • Operates related heavy equipment such as air compressor, jack hammer, acetylene torch, coring machine, dump truck and boom truck, combination vacuum/jetting truck; may operate backhoe.
      • Participates in divisional after hours stand-by and call out program.
      • Performs all other associated duties regarding the installation, maintenance of wastewater lines/attributes and other associated services provided by the City.
    • Additional Requirements: High School diploma from an accredited school or its equivalent
    • One (1) year experience in a similar working environment a plus
    • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida driver's license
    • Must possess and maintain a valid telephone number

    May be required to work overtime, or alternate hours, as necessary for the efficient operation of the department

    • Must be able to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screen

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (Water):

    • Must possess and maintain a valid state of Florida driver's license.
    • Must maintain a valid telephone number.
    • Required to pass and maintain qualification for:
      • Respiratory Protection Physical.
      • Pulmonary Function.
      • Qualitative and Quantitative Fit Test(s).

    Working Environment & Physical Demands

    • Occasional lifting of items weighting a maximum of 50 pounds.
    • Ability to climb stairwells up to 15 levels high.
    • Ability to ascend and descend ladders (step, extension, cage) up to 24' high.
    • Able to walk at a normal pace for up to 15 continuous minutes.
    • Able to work from a standing position for 8-12 hours.
    • Ability to twist and bend on a recurring basis.
    • Weather conditions that can be expected are wet, humid, heat and cold, bright/dim light, traffic, heights, dusts, and pollen.
    • The job requires normal visual acuity, field vision, hearing, speaking, color perception, sense of smell, depth perception, and texture perception.
    • Some environments are in a high noise and vibrating area.
