DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform and/or provide direction and support for the following services:

  • Receive / render shift report to outgoing / incoming shift
  • Collaborate with inter/intra departmental personnel within the shelter (e.g. all medical staff, mental health providers, case managers) to enhance UAC plan of care
  • Assists with the managing of daily medical operations and prioritizing tasks.
  • Accurate documentation in UAC medical record, Medication administration record, SharePoint, and UAC portal according to training guidelines
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of basic word processing programs and the Acuity Medical Management System software.
  • Utilizes Acuity computer to access e-mail, electronic documentation, and other job specific requirements.
  • Complies with all applicable Acuity standards and guidelines.
  • Attends and participates in a variety of meetings and task force groups to improve quality and outcomes, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specific level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, new task efforts, and new policy requirements.
  • All Health Care Providers (HCPs) will document care delivered and follow up care required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • EMT-B will use and maintain common emergency equipment, such as backboards, suction devices, splints, and oxygen delivery systems.
  • Participate in training, (including HIPAA training)
  • Systematically assess the urgent or emergent health needs of UAC, with other members of the medical team
  • Recognizes and treats illnesses and injuries according to established operating instructions within the scope of licensure and regulations of state employment or practice.
  • Records and maintains patient information in accordance with standard protocols, and the Privacy Act.
  • Identifies and records signs and symptoms of physical and mental conditions.
  • Thoroughly exercises skill in initiative, judgment, problem solving and decision-making on a daily basis.
  • Makes independent judgments and prioritizes workload.
  • Demonstrates proven success in stressful environments.
  • Pursues professional development activities and continuing education to ensure currency with present practices and trends in healthcare and specifically in the practice of emergency medical treatment
  • EMT-B assist EMT-P in emergency response
  • Perform vital signs, vision hearing screening, point of care testing
  • Support nurses providing care to UAC
  • SIR documentation and submission
  • Perform lice / scabies intervention
  • Assist EMT-P during the intake and assessment of UAC upon arrival to the HHS shelter
  • Assess UAC, measures vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), visual screening, hearing screening, required to draw and collect blood samples from UAC and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against standards; making or recommending necessary adjustments; following standards of care set by state board and other governing agency regulations.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations; calling for assistance from health care support personnel as needed.
  • Protects UAC and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures
  • Maintains medical supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies; using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Collaborates with EMT-P in order to conduct medical supplies and equipment inventory each shift.
  • Complies with all applicable Acuity standards and guidelines.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduated with High School diploma, GED or equivalent education required.
  • Associate degree preferred
  • Unrestricted licensed in the state of service
  • Fluent in English and Spanish (speak, read, and write)
  • Ability to explain treatments and conditions to adolescents in a manner and language in which they understand
  • Willingness to work flexible schedule and fill in when needed is strongly preferred.
  • Completed an approved Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B) course, and certification.
  • Two year experience as a EMT-B
  • Two year clinical and/or EMT field experience preferred.
  • Clean criminal background check.
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR)
  • MANDATORY Certifications BLS/CPR
  • PREFERRED Certifications PALS
  • Clean Child Abuse and Neglect (CAN) or child protective services check
