SUMMARY/OBJECTIVES

The role of the Financial Intelligent Unit Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring account relationships are established in compliance with the Bank's Customer Identification Program (CIP), Customer Due Diligence (CDD), Identity Verification (IDV), and Ultimate Beneficial Owner (UBO) requirements.

In this role, the FIU Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily activities of the employees within the assigned group, provides direction, sets goals, and ensures department goals are attained. The position includes the responsibility for ensuring account relationships with CIP/UBO exceptions are resolved appropriately and in accordance with the Bank's policies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

* Manage a team of employees responsible for conducting identity verification inquiries and reviewing failed records to resolve those that can be cleared with documentation provided by the customer.

* Manage a team of employees responsible for the review of deposit and loan accounts to ensure the compliance of CIP, CDD, and ultimate beneficial ownership.

* Monitor compliance with policies, procedures, and processes throughout the organization.

* Provide daily leadership of the FIU Team Leads and Specialists by providing direction, answering inquiries stemming through reviews, and promoting a positive working environment to assist employees in professional growth in their roles.

* Work independently on assigned tasks and responsibilities of the Team.

* Ensure that tasks are assigned and completed on schedule.

* Ensure the duties of the FIU Specialists are performed as expected.

* Review/update job specific procedures to ensure current procedures are documented and being followed. Identify process improvements or efficiencies where possible.

* Conduct quality control reviews of completed assignments to ensure any outstanding exceptions or issues are addressed and resolved appropriately.

* Act as a technical resource for the various business lines for matters pertaining to IDV, CIP, CDD and ultimate beneficial ownership.

* Along with the FIU Director of Operations, establish positive and effective working relationships with other FIU and external department leaders.

* Provide manager with regular updates as requested on group performance, tasks, and any issues as they arise.

* Escalate activity that meets the established criteria for investigating suspected fraudulent or problem accounts through the submission of an Unusual Activity Referral Form.

* Assist in projects as may be assigned.

* Maintain proficiency in all aspects of BSA/AML compliance; attend FIU training as assigned by the Chief BSA Officer.

* Adhere to all provisions of South State Bank policies and procedures, including the confidentiality policy, code of ethics and BSA/AML/OFAC policies and procedures.

COMPETENCIES

* Knowledge and understanding of BSA/AML statutes and regulations in general. Strong working knowledge of CIP. Identity verification screening, beneficial ownership, customer due diligence requirements and suspicious activity monitoring.

* Familiarity with bank operations in general.

* Self-motivated, dependable, adaptable, and detail-oriented individual with analytical, writing, and organizational skills.

* Ability to read, analyze and interpret Federal and State banking regulations and statues related to the Bank Secrecy Act, USA PATRIOT Act and FinCEN requirements.

* Ability to write reports and business correspondence.

  • Clear understanding of the impact that CIP and CDD data has in supporting an effective BSA program
  • Ability to identify unusual and/or suspicious activity and understand when it needs to be escalated within the FIU department

* Basic computer skills (spreadsheet and word processing); knowledge of and ability to use internal bank systems, a plus; self-starter; excellent written and oral communication skills; excellent organizational skills.

Qualifications, Education And Certification Requirements

* Education: Bachelor's Degree preferred

* Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in one or a combination of the following: Bank Secrecy Act and/or Financial Crimes compliance with a focus on compliance requirements when establishing new customer records and accounts. Customer Due Diligence experience preferred. Minimum 3 years supervisor or management experience.

  • Certifications/Specific Knowledge: Strong understanding of the regulatory requirements of CDD, CIP, IDV and UBO to ensure compliance under the regulations as they pertain to the Bank Secrecy Act and USA PATRIOT Act.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to effectively access and interpret information on computer screens, documents, and reports. This position requires a large amount of time in front of a computer. This can be done sitting or standing with use of the right desk. Must be able to constantly use hands and fingers to enter data through or on a computer or answer a phone throughout most of an (8) hour shift. Must be able to hear and communicate with coworkers throughout the day. This position may require bending and reaching.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essentially job functions of this job. Position may require before/after normal business hours, or regular out-of-town travel.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Telecommuting roles no matter if hybrid or 100% full time telecommuting must have a secure home office environment that is free from background noise and distractions. They must also have a reliable private internet connection that is not supplied by use of cellular data (hot spot). Cable or fiber connections are preferred. Requirements are subject to change, as new systems and technology is delivered. Travel may be required to come to meetings as needed.
