Here's what you'd do:

  • The Technician-level position as a machinist in the Mechanical Engineering Machine Shop operates a wide range of machine tools in the precision fabrication from aerospace-grade metals of prototype/development parts and assemblies in support of internal customers for research and development projects and contracted programs.
  • The manually or numerically controlled equipment will need competency in lathe, mill, press, shear, band saw, and grinder operations.
  • Requested tasks are verified and evaluated with the Manager and test requester and scheduled in an environment where competing and conflicting needs are often resolved.
  • Job status is reported and reviewed as needed with the manager.
  • The selected candidate will report directly to the Mechanical Engineering Machine Shop (MEMS) supervisor as part of the Structural & Environmental Lab inside of the Technology Labs and Services Organization within the Engineering and Technology Department for clients Missiles and Fire Control.

Pay: $26.39 Hourly OT40.

Hours: 4/10A-1st Shift

Length: Temporary (12 Months)

Job Requirements
Required Skills / Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 4 years experience with technical fabrication in a prototype/development environment with experience in metal fabrication, mechanical assembly, and composite fabrication while working in a team environment.

Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
  • Associate Degree
  • Knowledge of CNC machines and software, CATIA, Creo, Pro E, and G-code programming.
  • GD&T, Mil-Spec Standards.
  • Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) programming
  • Set up and operate a drill press.
  • Set up and Operate the Lathe and Milling Machine
  • Advanced working knowledge of various metals, layout, cutting, bending, and forming.
  • Working knowledge from concept design to product development.
  • Ability to communicate through development, guide working projects, and task individuals.
  • Demonstrated competence in fabricating bare steel and aluminum alloys using a knee mill, band saw, manual lathe, and basic hand-powered metal cutting.
  • Capable of deconflicting scheduling conflicts with customers, multi-tasking, and prioritizing projects as needed.
  • Proficient in computing within a Windows-based MS Office-suite-centered environment for communication, scheduling, data processing, and primary data transfer.
  • Demonstrated sound writing and verbal communication skills.

Additional Information:

  • Upon offer of employment, the individual will be subject to a background check and a drug screen.
  • Be able to work a flex schedule, overtime, evenings, weekends, and the position will require the candidate to work onsite daily.
  • Active Secret DoD Clearance
