Acuity is currently seeking Chief of Medical Maintenance to support our Medical Service Support contracts in the Middle East.

The Chief of Medical Maintenance reports to and is supervised by the Program Manager and will provide technical leadership to Biomedical Equipment Technicians (BMET).


The Chief of Medical Maintenance will be responsible for oversight to repair or maintain equipment in one of three settings:

(1) Large medical/trauma hospitals

(2) Small medical/trauma hospital and assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician

(3) Non-surgical field Health units.

Location: Baghdad, Iraq

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform duties in a hospital setting and coordinates their work with the site lead or other primary medical equipment users (Radiologist, Physicians, Surgeons, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Physician's Assistants, Medical Technologists) on the work site.
  • Ensure the BMETs install, repair and maintain medical equipment to ensure it is clean, safe and functioning properly. This includes biomedical equipment that requires use of Test, Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE), computers with specialized software, hand tools and other repair shop equipment to diagnose and fix problems with a wide variety of healthcare technology.
  • Work on X-ray and ultrasound machines, ventilators, defibrillators, infusion pump, hospital beds, and medical laboratory equipment as required.
  • Ensure BMETs assist with medical equipment set up and disinfect laboratory and healthcare equipment so it is safe and ready to use.
  • Directs overall operationsof the Biomedical Equipment Repair Program.
  • Responsible for program wide capital equipmentplanning.
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatoryguidelines, standards, and requirements.
  • Responsible for efficient workflow managementand efficient turnaround times for repairs.
  • Inspect, maintain, adjust, calibrate, and repair a wide variety of electronic, electromechanical, and hydraulicequipment, to include patient monitors, defibrillators, medical imagingequipment (X-rays, CT scanners, and ultrasound equipment),voice-controlled operating tables, as well as other sophisticated dental,optometric, and ophthalmic equipment.
  • Perform safety checks and train practitioners to safely operate equipment.
  • Notifies manufacturers or distributors of uncorrectable equipment malfunctions to arrange for repair.
  • Keeps extensive records of equipment checks, both for maintenance and repair.
  • Maintains inventories and records supplies and parts.
  • Thoroughly exercises skill in initiative, judgment, problem-solving and decision-making daily.
  • Assists with the managing of day-to-day activities and prioritizing tasks.
  • Operates personal computer to access e-mail, electronic calendars, and other basic office support software.
  • Monitor's reconciliation of financial transactions and ensures contract charges are applied uniformly.
  • Protects patients' privacy through confidentiality, infection control procedures, assuring consistent medication administration, and assuring proper storage and maintenance procedures for all equipment and supplies.
  • Attends and participates in a variety of meetings and task force groups to improve quality and outcomes,communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems, and maintainspecific level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, new taskefforts, and new policy requirements.
  • Shall understand and practice the precepts ofthe American Hospital Associations Bill of Rights for patients.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must have completed a Biomedical Equipment Technology or Engineering training program leading to a diploma, certificate or an associate degree or U.S. Military Biomedical Equipment Technician technical school training certification.
  • 6 years minimum experience as a Biomedical Equipment Technician is required.
  • A minimum of 1 year supervisory experience.
  • Training and experience repairing CT scanners, and similar sophisticated equipment.
  • Certification by theAssociation for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) andadditional training/experience repairing CT scanners is preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to research and resolve inquiries and respond in a timely manner.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications, specifically Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

Other Requirements:

  • Must have a valid, current U.S. Driver's License.
  • Must have a valid US Passport with no less than 6 months remaining before expiration.
  • Requires a favorable security background check and drug screen.
  • Must sign an International Assignment Agreement (IAA) and is bound to the terms and conditions of the IAA.
  • Must be current in all required certifications.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must meet pre-deployment physical requirements.
  • Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
  • The location of services may at times be in remote, austere or challenging environments.
  • May require bending, stooping, and lifting as required for patient care and transport.
