Overview

We are looking for an experienced and reliable Accounting Manager to join Merrick's financial services team. You will be responsible for overseeing and managing the daily operations of the accounting department, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations, preparing financial reports and statements, and supervising the accounting staff.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA certification required.
  • Previous A&E industry experience with project accounting experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Proven leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and accounting software.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and quality.
  • Ability to drive work independently and manage multiple projects that vary in scope and complexity simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and mentor the accounting staff, ensuring timely and accurate completion of tasks and adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Supervision of 5-6 direct reports including staff accountants and Accounts Payable clerks
  • Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and analyses prepared by the accounting staff.
  • Plan, implement and monitor the accounting policies and procedures of the company.
  • Assist in month end and ensure accurate journal entries and analysis on accounts for Merrick & Company and its subsidiaries.
  • Perform monthly indirect cost analysis for Merrick & Company and all subsidiaries and identify potential concerns.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports in accordance with GAAP and company standards for subsidiary companies.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, tax regulations, and external audit requirements.
  • Analyze and reconcile accounts, identify, and resolve discrepancies and errors.
  • Assist in tax matters and ensure filings are accurate and timely.
  • Assist with maintaining business license to ensure compliance.
  • Ensure Merrick stays compliant with lease accounting standards and process monthly entries.
  • Stay updated on accounting standards, regulations, and best practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Controller

Physical Requirements

  • Requires the ability to sit for extended periods at a computer workstation.
  • Be able to work in an environment with open discussions and visitors without getting distracted.
  • May be required to lift up to 20 lbs.
