The Supervisor oversees the safety, and operational aspects of planning, executing, and monitoring of project work in their area; assigns work and special projects, collects requirements, schedules staff, manages project scope changes, manages processes to ensure all deliverables are met according to specifications with no deviations to process. The incumbent identifies and troubleshoots problems independently in a timely manner, reports deviations, ensures their team reports deviations, and with the assistance of management, responds to deviations with root cause analysis and corrective and preventative action. The supervisor is expected to have a full understanding of the area's work processes, key quality points, and technical details; and routinely review current document-controlled SOPs and writes new SOPs. In addition, they are responsible for the proper compliance with operational protocols, technical skills training for the staff, and assurance of quality by working closely with QA/QC personnel. Lastly, the incumbent carries out administrative/supervisory responsibilities such as training and development of a team of technicians.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversees daily operations: supervises personnel within the department, assigns tasks, assesses work quality and employee training; ensures personnel development meets the standards of the service. Sets goals and expectations of standards within the lab and monitors those standards; administers and coordinates all technical activities and procedures related to department operations. Ensures a safe work environment is maintained, and safety policies/practices are followed. Oversees instrument operations and maintenance.
  • Staff management and development: coaches, evaluates, and develops all technicians and technologists. Key responsibilities include developing ground rules, guidelines, and goals, and motivating direct reports to achieve high levels of performance.
  • Area Maintenance and Quality: establishes and maintains robust quality procedures that ensure the integrity of service and operations. Ensures high-quality stewardship of laboratory assets such as inventoried bio-specimens, equipment, reagents and materials, and facilities.
  • Administrative duties: a) Writing and updating SOPs for: day-to-day lab operations, key maintenance and safety issues, and policies to handle emergencies b) Compiling and summarizing data to meet reporting requirements.

The salary range is $63,744 - 92,429. Salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, (Bachelor's Degree preferred) and a minimum of 4 years of laboratory experience working with rodents, and with the ability to use standard laboratory equipment.
  • Contract Research Organization (CRO) experience is preferred.
  • Lean Six Sigma, Leadership, and/or Quality Advocate Training is preferred.
  • Possess in-depth knowledge and familiarity with all operating requirements and procedures of the work area sufficient to oversee and train personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and lead a team of technicians.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet quality standards and drive process improvements.
  • Interpersonal relationship skills sufficient to allow the incumbent to effectively lead others, develop consensus among members of multifunctional teams holding disparate opinions and work effectively with individuals and groups made up of people representing a diversity of technical skills and degrees of sophistication
  • Excellent written and verbal skills sufficient to produce professional-level correspondence and prepare clear and comprehensive business reporting, recommendations, and proposals.
  • Management skills to plan, implement, monitor, assess, report, and develop laboratory operations/facilities management aimed at improving quality and efficiency, including quality assurance programs, deviations, and related corrective and preventative actions programs, employee health & safety programs, staff training programs, and other programs required for maintaining the quality and efficiency of the in vivo service.
