Maxar is looking for a Sr Manager to join our Analytics and Solutions division and lead the Analytics Development team. This team produces capabilities that solve customer problems in innovative ways and unlock new markets for geospatial insights. Analytics Development will evaluate and develop emerging methods and disruptive technologies, characterizing suitability for adoption and pathways for implementation and eventual transition to production. The position can be performed remotely within the United States; though the team is based in Westminster, CO.

In this role, the Manager will report to the Sr Director of Analytics and Solutions and have the support of a Tech Lead, to help guide them to execute requests from a wide variety of customers, promote career progression, and to coordinate workflows with the adjacent Analytics Engineering and Applied Analytics teams. The manager is expected to respond tactfully to Product and Engineering requirements, guided by a deep understanding of emerging machine learning, data science, electro optics, and unstructured data analysis. The position requires fundamental experience in emerging machine learning technologies, such as Transformers, LLMs, and Computer Vision, and backend capabilities that help scale, accelerate, and optimize user access to data and analytics workflows.

We use quick iteration and regular feedback cycles to rapidly build sensemaking capabilities for customers, both internal and external, to provide Analytics & Solutions, backed with a sophisticated data architecture, that accelerate the flow of work from experimentation to development to production across Machine Learning, Data Science, and Research Science workflows.

Responsibilities include:

  • Exercises supervision in terms of costs, methods, and staffing. In some instances, this manager may have subordinate supervisors.

  • Establishes operational objectives and work plans, and delegates assignments to subordinates. Senior management reviews objectives to determine success of operation.

  • Involved in developing, modifying, and executing company policies that affect immediate operations and may also have company-wide effect.

  • Works on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of organizational objectives. Implements strategic policies when selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

  • Establishes and assures adherence to budgets, schedules, work plans, and performance requirements. Erroneous decisions will result in critical delay(s) in schedules and/or unit operations and may jeopardize overall business activities.

  • Regularly interacts with senior management or executive levels on matters concerning several functional areas, divisions, and/or customers. Requires the ability to collaboratively change the thinking of, or gain acceptance from, others in sensitive situations, without damage to the relationship.

Day-to-day with your colleagues:

  • You'll be leading the teams designing new sensemaking capabilities for the company. This will mean building the company's most important products and transitioning them from development to production while coordinating with adjacent Engineering and Applied Analytics teams. This will mean leveraging developing technologies in our Lakehouse, inference engines, and scalable compute architecture to build meaningful value for our customers.

  • Through collaboration with our Applied Analytics, Analytics Engineering, and Foundational Data Science teams, you'll work closely with managers of those teams and lead engineers and scientists to develop new capabilities that will become mission critical workflows.

  • We work in a very Lean Agile environment without the overhead associated with traditional Scrum. This will mean bridging the gap between a research environment and a production software environment. We've eliminated unnecessary development meetings and we love it!

  • You will manage a geographically dispersed team and communicate primarily via Microsoft Teams and Slack.

Requirements/Skills

Our team's minimum requirements for this position:

  • Must be a U.S. Person.

  • Master's degree in a related field, (e.g., Computer Science, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Applied Math, etc.) and 5-10 years of professional experience.

  • At least 2 years of people management.

  • Experience with software development and algorithm design with Python, including Object Oriented Programming methodologies.

  • Experience bringing research code into a production software environment.

  • Recent experience with the following technologies:

  • Modern modeling techniques such as Transformers, LLMs, YOLO, etc.

  • Cloud technologies like AWS or Azure, with a focus on services like RDS, EKS, and S3/ECR,

  • Managed infrastructure like Kubernetes & Docker,

  • GitHub, GitLab, BitBucket, or any other Git tools,

  • Experience working with and engineering geospatial datasets.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in a related field, (e.g., Computer Science, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Applied Math, etc.) and 8 years of professional experience.

  • Experience in emerging modeling techniques (Foundational Models, LLMs, YOLOV8, Graph Ontologies, etc)

  • Experience using Jira for project management and Aha! for product requirements tracking.

  • Experience using machine learning development frameworks and machine learning operations technologies, such as PyTorch and/or Tensorflow and knowledge of utilizing platforms built on top of Terraform with Helm, or other infrastructure-as-code tools.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with remote and/or geographically distributed teams.

Our salary ranges are market-driven and set to allow for flexibility. Individual pay will be competitive based on a candidate's unique set of knowledge, skills, and geographic diversity, with earnings potential commensurate with experience. The range for this position is:

$137,000.00 - $229,000.00 annually.


Additionally, this position is incentive eligible with a target based on contribution, company performance, and/or individual results achieved; the specific incentive plan and target amount will be determined based on the role and breadth of contributions.
