Responsibilities

Join our team at the Draper microfabrication facility as a Microfabrication Process Engineer. In this role, you will be a key player in the clean room environment, contributing significantly to the generation and development of concepts in MEMs, photonics, microfluidics, and 3D integration, including interpose and wafer level packaging (WLP) concepts.

As part of our process engineering team, your responsibilities will include:

    Acting as a subject matter expert in process and equipment for technicians, technical staff, and specialists. This involves coordinating with all affected areas to ensure smooth operation.
  • Designing and executing experiments to analyze and enhance process capability, quality, and efficiency.
  • Collaborating with project leaders to develop new process steps as required.
  • Creating and maintaining necessary process documentation and qualification procedures.
  • Assisting with the purchase of new tools and the development of associated processes.
  • Training technicians to ensure they have a complete understanding of and adherence to established procedures.

Additionally, the position may also require proposal writing, business development activities, and collaboration with external partners from government, academia, and industry.

Qualifications
  • A Ph.D. or M.S. in engineering, physics, or related field, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. However, if you've acquired experience in MEMS, sensors, actuators, semiconductor manufacturing, or assembly through alternative paths, we encourage you to apply.
  • Demonstrated expertise in semiconductor device fabrication, MEMS, and/or photonic devices is essential.
  • Strong preference for knowledge and experience in chemical mechanical planarization (CMP).
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following process areas is required: CMP, photolithography, plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD), thin film deposition (ECD, PVD, ALD, E-beam), reactive ion etch, wet processing, thermal oxidation, silicon wafer thinning, or wafer bonding.
  • Familiarity with metrology tools such as atomic force microscopes (AFM), particle measurement tools, profilometers, ellipsometers, and/or CSAM.
  • Desired experience in defining and implementing statistical process control, as well as working knowledge of statistical analysis and design of experiments.
  • Self-motivated and inquisitive individual who thrives in a multidisciplinary team environment and can support projects with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work and collaborate effectively with various stakeholders, including technicians, unit process engineers, technical staff, and specialists.
