Utility Engineer/Coordinator EIT - Houston, TX
Position Summary:
Halff has an immediate opening for an EIT in our Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) & Utility Coordination (UC) group in the Houston office with opportunities for advancement. This position involves collaborating with project teams, utility companies, and regulatory agencies to ensure smooth and efficient utility investigations, installations, relocations, and upgrades. The Engineer/Utility Coordinator EIT will perform the planning, coordination, and execution of utility-related activities to mitigate potential conflicts, delays, and cost overruns.
Responsibilities:
  • Developing understanding of utility systems, including electrical, water, sewer, gas, telecommunications, and other relevant infrastructure.
  • Developing utility research methods, including utility mapping, GIS technologies, and document review.
  • Moderate knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations related to utility coordination and construction.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage timelines, and meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills to facilitate collaboration among internal and external stakeholders.
  • Problem-solving aptitude to address unexpected utility conflicts and challenges.
  • Attention to detail in reviewing utility plans and construction plans to identify potential issues.
  • Leadership skills to guide junior team members and lead coordination efforts.
  • Familiarity with relevant software and tools, such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, GIS software, and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Assisting with coordination of field crew activities, including but not limited to submitting 811 tickets, organizing records, and troubleshooting issues.
Requirements:
  • Preferred 2+ years of experience
  • EIT certification (or ability to obtain within 1 year) preferred.
  • BS in Civil Engineering
  • Knowledge of MicroStation and AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Must have good communication skills and be well organized.
  • Experience on TxDOT projects is a plus.
